The aim of the Centre is to campaign against Unemployment and to seek to improve the circumstances and life chances of Unemployed people within the Tyne and Wear area. We are a Charity. Our objectives are to provide Information, Advice and Guidance as well as advocacy and representation in furtherance of our aims in particular with respect to supporting claimants who are in contact with the Welfare Benefits system.
During the past year we have received support and Funding from the National Lottery, The Tyne and Wear Community Foundation, The Roy and Pixie Baker Trust, The WA Handley Trust and the Alex Ferry Foundation, as well as regular support from individuals and other organisations..
Working with the Newcastle Fund, TWCAU runs regular courses on how to be successful in claims, Mandatory Reconsiderations and Appeal Tribunals for Personal Independence Payment (PIP) and Employment Support Allowance (ESA). These are aimed at claimants and those representing them. We can also represent people at Tribunals and can offer individual support
You can support the TWCAU by becoming a Volunteer. We are particularly keen to involve people in representing people. We understand that unemployment affects people in many ways, economically, socially and in terms of their mental and physical health. We seek to develop projects and to build links with organisations working with unemployed people and with communities affected by unemployment. We welcome volunteers, whether they can give half an hour a week or several hours. Every bit of support we receive is valued and appreciated.
